Spring Is On Its Way Despite the cold we have felt the it's first breath and a lot of us are back in the Garden preparing for the forthcoming year.

This is because so many of the late summer perennials and textural grasses emulate the natural planting on vast wild Prairies. These look wonderful right through until autumn.

Get Going With Grow Your Own. Potatoes, Onions and Shallots

 

Seed potatoes, onions, shallots, vegetable and herbs seeds are all now in stock so it's time to get going with grow your own.

Potatoes go in traditionally on Good Friday and onions and shallots go in now January, Februray.

We buy our spuds now and most let them form little sprouts or chits. It is considered this gives them a head start but it is not essential.

Spring Bulbs Are Emerging

 The crocus are coming through.

Bulbs signify that the spring season and the new gardening year is approaching fast.

It Is The Season For Primroses

 

There is a beautiful sense that spring is on its way when you head into our tunnel of seasonal colour. The primroses, pansies, violas, bellis daisies and spring bulbs are just lovely. These are perfect for pots and containers or just to colour up your borders. I love them.

Cercis canadensis 'Eternal Flame' The Chelsea 2021 Show Winner

 

I have watched and really enjoyed all the Chelsea coverage ending with last nights highlights, so I thought it totally appropriate to add one more picture post of the show winning plant. This is Cercis canadensis 'Eternal Flame'. It is such a pretty, hardy tree. A few arrived here on the nursery a few weeks ago and it's been admired and all but one bough very quickly! I was delighted it won. It is so autumnal and appropriate for this years unique show.

Autumn winter baskets can look gorgeous. They are hardy, less demanding to look after than summer baskets and create a wonderful punch of colour using largely foliage, consistently looking colourful all the time.
