Colour Each Season In Your Garden Is Easy To Achieve


Jan\ Feb \ March
Spring bulbs inc: snowdrops, crocus, daffodils, iris, grape hyacinth, scilla etc (Planted autumn.)

Spring bedding inc :viola, pansies, bellis, primula, cyclamen and dianthus.

Winter evergreens inc grasses and ferns.

Perennials: Hellebores, alpines.

Flowering shrubs: Daphne odora, sarcococca, Viburnum tinus, Viburnum bod ‘Dawn’.

Evergreen clematis: armandii and cirrhosa (Evergreen.)

Spring clematis inc: alpinia,macropetala, montana, × cartmanii.

Flowering climbers: Jasminum nudiflorum.

Winter /Spring Wall Shrub: catkins Garrya Elliptica.




Flowering late March/April
Spring Perennials: pulmonaria, hellebores, ephorbia, brunnera, Dicentra spectabilis, aquilegia, bergenia, digitalis (foxgloves), geums.
Bedding Wallflowers.
Later spring bulbs planted in autumn include: erythronium, tulips, alliums, camassi.

Early Summer
Summer bedding inc: hanging basket plants.
Perennials inc: cranesbill geraniums, lupins, campanula, delphinium, polemonium, sisyrinchium, peonies, iris, astrantia, salvia, Alchemilla mollis, nepeta, anthemis a huge selection too long to list.
Bulbs inc: lillium, late alliums, gladiolus

Climbers include: lots of summer flowering clematis, akeiba (very hardy), lonicera, passiflora,
Evergreen Flowering Wall Shrubs: ceanothus, phyracantha.
Flowering Shrubs: A huge choice inc. deutzia, cistus, escallonia, potentilla, ceanothus, syringa (lilac), Hydrangea macrophylla, choisya.


Late Summer into Autumn
Late summer shrubs flowering on this years growth inc: buddleja, lavatera, caryopteris, hydrangea paniculata and arberensis varieties, hibiscus, hypericum, abelia, weigela.
All the summer bedding including: dahlias and salvias.
Perennials including: leucanthemum, helenium, rudbeckia, salvia, veronicastrum, perovskia, Verbena bonariensis, agapanthus, crocosmia

Autumn

Clematis: scrambling varieties inc.  viticella, texensis, tangutica.
Climber: vitus, parthenosis (virgina creeper, boston ivy, lonicera.
Grasses: ornamental grasses inc. pennisetum, miscanthus , paniceum, stipa... Note: these look fabulous planted with late summer perennials.
Shrubs: Euonymus alatus, Euonymus europea, calacarpia, Viburnum burkwoodii
Perennials: ceratostigma, acontum, lirope, schizostylis, anemone, aster inc. most of the asteracea family with daisy flowers.



Winter Choose plants with interesting shapes, weeping , contorted and leave perennials that look good in death.
Evergreens: Choose contrasting foliage, silver euonymus, red photinia, acid yellow choysia.
Winter bark trees: Acer davidii (snake bark maple), Acer griseum, Betula utulis var. Jacquemontii, Betula pendula ‘youngii’, Prunus serrula.
Winter Flowering Trees: Prunus autumnalis
Shrubs with catkins: Corylus (hazel) inc. contorted, Garrya elliptica, late winter Salix (pussy willow)
Shrubs with Colourful Stems: Cornus (Dog wood varieties), physocarpus, Rubus thibetanus (Ghost bramble), salix.
Evergreen Grasses: Carrex, Fetuca glauca, Stipa.
Ferns:Asplenium scolopendrium, Blechnum spicant, Cyrtomium fortunei, Dryopteris erythrosora (semi-evergreen, Dryopteris wallichiana, Polystichum aculeatum, Polystichum Herrenhausen', Polystichum setiferum, Polypodium vulgare
