Unlike other seed companies Kings still farm 325 acres in Essex. They are British and are the last surviving wholesale horticultural seed merchant in the country and have been producing seed since 1888

There are some really good winter whites and silver foliage. White is not just reserved for summer flowers. Simple understated but stunningly pretty. Again less can be so much more in a garden. Repetition of colour themes being bold enough with your choice of colour and enough of it. White is my shade of winter and often summer.

The original founders Errington and Reay established their pottery at Bardon Mill in 1878.
Combined with specialised glazing and firing techniques, this old fashioned formula gives Errington Reay pottery it’s truly unique textured finish.  Hand throwing Errington Reay pots requires a great deal of skill.  Apprentices can take up to two years learning to throw just one style of pot while several of our master potters have been with the company for over 25 years.  

The unique Errington Reay salt glaze finish is produced from our two brick kilns. Both these kilns were completely refurbished in 2001.  The “Newcastle” kiln dates back to 1925 and the “Beehive” Kiln to 1932.  Once the kilns are filled, the door is bricked up.  The kilns then take two days and nights to reach the full firing temperature of 1250 degrees centigrade at which point, the salt is added.  When the salt is introduced into the kiln it vaporises and fuses with the surface of the clay.

As soon as the soil hits about 10 degrees traditionally any time from mid February those nasty black beasts will be hatching. Be ready!!!
Catch them early before they do the damage.
