Salvias for Mid-late-Summer and Autumn

If you are looking for something to fill the mid-summer to autumn gap look no further than salvias. Here are a few to peruse but by no mean not all.

‘Oriental Dove’ is a new one to look enjoy. It came out in 2020 in a misty soft purple.

Amethyst Lips

We have ‘Hot Lip’ (up top) everyone’s reliable favourite and now ‘Amethyst Lips’ that was released a couple of years ago (Closely followed by Cherry Lips) the deep classy purple equivalent.

 ‘Roya Bumble’

‘Roya Bumble’ is for those who want all hot red with no white tips. All these are also ideal for containers.

‘Blue Note’ is a rich blue and like the above about 50 to 75cm.

Salvia uliginosa ‘African skies’

‘African skies’ is a little different at 0.75-1.8m in a vivid gorgeous sky blue that would add some eye level colour to a mixed border. This variety is slightly smaller and more compact than the genus at 2m tall by 0.9m wide.

Salvias want a well-drained soil and must avoid winter wet.
