The most common is the large bright pink variety known as Lavatera × clementii 'Rosea' or Lavatera arborea 'Rosea' or Lavatera olbia 'Rosea'. It is very vigorous and we have some smaller varieties such as Barnsley with a soft pink flower grown as an alternative. It is easier to keep at about 1m as opposed to 2m-2.5m.
Whichever variety you choose remember it needs a major chop in about February which is easy to do. I am quiet brutal when it comes to hacking mine back and it pays off with a much more robust plant.
One thing I will say about this shrub is that establishes very quickly and looks substantial in its first year. It gives a lot and like all plants that flower profusely with a fast heart beat it won’t live for ever but it is very easy to take a cutting from to replace it.
