We do have a great selection of neutral pots in styles from
modern to rustic. I think pots look most effective when they blend or are the
same style or similar. A cacophony of odd pots can look cluttered. Also they
don't need to shout louder than the plants, the plants are the story.
Collecting odd numbers, remember this is floristry! 1, 3, 5,
7 in groups work well. Repeating the same group of pots with the same planting
can look balanced and effective. I have seen this work well with repeated pots
of different evergreen shrubs in groups.
Don't be concerned about putting statement plants in pots.
Topiary, cloud pruning, small standard trees or large architectural shrubs,
palms or grasses.
Alternatively a collection of 3 small shrubs with blending
colour schemes or a central standard lollipop bay tree and a collection of
practical herbs makes a instantly useful pot and looks great visually.
Two matching pots can mark a doorway or a step into a
garden.
Lastly it's summer. PaInt with plant colour and use your
hanging basket pot grown bedding with a central geranium, osteospermum or
fuchsia (great in shade) and trailing plants in matching colours, creating a
pot to give you pleasure until the first frosts. We all need to go a little
wild in our gardens somewhere!
