New Hybrid Hellebores or Lenten Roses

Many of these new hybrid varieties are crossed with Orientals varieties and therefore more of a Lenten rose. We tend to see some stronger colours and slightly later flowering than the H. Niger and those varieties crossed with the early Christmas rose.

Some of the new hybrid hellebore are absolutely fantastic. Really good colours long flowering periods and prominent flowers hanging above the foliage rather than nodding underneath. They appear be be both tough and resilient. Due to the care taken in breading these plants are true to type. They do robustly well in my wet clay and changeable soil.

Whist we all love the white Helleborus Niger and all its varieties such as the Winter Gold collection and the intense and interesting shades of some of the hybrid are unsurpassed.
There has been quiet a break through in breeding plants as a result there is a lot more uniformity. Propagated by division.Vegetative production means it is true-to-type. 100% first year flowering uniformity.

This is Spring promise Conny

This is Helleborus Cinderella another fantastic strong reliable long flowering hybrid.

This icy pink hybrid is Spring Frost and its easy to see why it is part of the Helleborus Gold Spring Collection.

There is no doubt the hybrid are lovely but spare a thought also for the Ericsmithii varieties such as Winter Sunshine and the similar but marbles leaf variety Winter Moonbeam. These are excellent, produced by crossing Hellebous sernii  with H.Niger. and they perform brilliantly.
