Malus
Wisley
The 'Wisley
Crab' is a crab apple tree like no other; it features purple foliage and the
largest crab apples cultivated to date. The leaves are a deep purple-green
colour and they are accompanied by carmine flowers in spring. Come autumn, the
flowers have turned into huge, glossy-red crab apples which are the size of
dessert apples.
Special features: Extremely large crab apples which are great for
making crab apple jelly and juicing.
Cercidiphyllum
japonicum
The Katsura Tree,
scientifically known as Cercidiphyllum japonicum, is an ornamental deciduous
tree that offers seasonal beauty and a wonderful fragrance to boot.
Originating from
Japan and China, it is prized for its heart-shaped foliage and captivating
autumn colours. In spring, small reddish flowers emerge before the
bronze-tinted young leaves show. Throughout summer, the rounded, heart-shaped
leaves turn a fresh green, providing a light, airy canopy. As the seasons
change, Katsura Tree steals the show in autumn, with its foliage turning shades
of gold, orange, pink, and deep red.
Special features: One of the most
unique features of Cercidiphyllum japonicum is the sweet scent reminiscent of
burnt sugar that the fallen leaves emit in autumn, making it a truly sensory
experience in the garden.
Katsura Tree is
perfect as a feature tree, in woodland gardens, or near patios where its autumn
fragrance can be truly appreciated. Its low-maintenance nature and breathtaking
seasonal displays make it an excellent choice for gardeners looking for something
truly special.
Prunus x Yedoensis
Prunus x Yedoensis
commonly known as the Tokyo cherry blossom is a highly attractive tree with
elegant, spreading branches which become covered with almond scented,
blush-white flowers in March and April. New leaves emerge green and fade to
shades of orange.
Special
features: Almond scented flowers on slightly weeping branches.
Sorbus aucuparia
‘Cardinal Royal’
Sorbus
aucuparia 'Cardinal Royal' is a narrow and upright tree with attractive dark
green leaves that are divided into leaflets. The foliage also features silvery
undersides which turn a rich russet-red each autumn. Lightly scented creamy
white spring flowers later become large bunches of glossy bright red berries,
which are produced during late July and August. This mountain ash tree is ideal
for medium-large gardens and open spaces.
Special features: Vibrant red autumn foliage and red berries.
