As autumn fades into winter the last semblances of colour come to the forefront. This is a Stewartia pseudocamellia.
It can be grown as small tree , final height 10 to 12m or kept as a large shrub. We noticed the amazing autumn colour on a fully grown tree during a visit to an arboretum but it has many other points of interest. The mottled bark is unusual as it grows and the camellia like white flowers last from June to August.
This large shrub or tree in the tea family has been overlooked.
